| Help with this crazy idea So i was thinking.. since i am cheap and broke, i cant afford a full coilovers and i really want to slam my toaster. right now i have eibach sportline and stock struts. so i was thinking of just cutting a coil in the front and half a coil in the rear. and buy tokico blues... would that be ok? |

| Re: Help with this crazy idea Don't do it. I will never support a suspension hack. If you really want to get lower in the front you can get a replacement strut for an Echo. That will drop you another 1/2". If you can find performance Echo struts, they should provide the same drop.
In the rear, you are kind of out of luck. Or you could contact a company like K Sport who will sell each component individually. Then you could pick up the rear adjuster seats and coils without the added expense of rear dampers or anything else for the front. |

| Re: Help with this crazy idea Don't do it! Cutting coils is a costly shortcut. I did this when I first got into tuning because that's what my friends suggested and I didn't know any better at the time. You will not only trash your OEM struts/shocks but most of the connected suspension components as well. You will end up spending more than the cost of the coilovers on repairs.
Aside from that, it's extremely dangerous to run with cut coils. I had mine fall out, luckily, not at freeway speeds.
So your plan should be to think out what exact set-up you want to run and start saving/budgeting unitl you can afford them. You will be glad that you did once you get them. |

| Re: Help with this crazy idea once again I will trow my 2cents in just b/c.
I have been running on cut stock springs on one of my xBs since 04, I have put over 80,000 miles on them. I HAVE swapped out to the echo struts and shorter shocks out back. To solve the spring falling out prob, or to prevent it, I had the rear springs tack welded in, as well as the front.
The ride is not bad at all, the back rides way better the stock. The front still bottoms out every now and then on big dips at highway speeds.
Do I recommend it? no. .
can it be done in a safer manner then most think, and have seen/heard of stories? I say yes. I too have heard of stories of probs, and seen how some of the Hondas, ride like crap etc. Mine does not, period.
But back in late 04 there were not a lot of options on springs, so I did what I wanted to do to get low, and was the lowest in my area for a LONG time, till a guy did air
and here is how it sits.
And there is my 2cents on the subject. |

| Re: Help with this crazy idea Ive got the dropzone. I have the back installed, but with the stock shocks I can only get the 1.5 drop. If I do new lower shocks I could go lower. I still need to do my fronts. Thats a project for this summer. |

| Re: Help with this crazy idea I guess like any other spring. To me its just the same as it was with the stock springs but little tighter.
Im thinking about pulling them and just running a rear bag setup. |
