Front suspension help

I have a question about one of my front coilovers.
I just purchased a 05 box with coilovers already on it. However, When I drove it around, I heard this thumping sound on the front passenger side. When I did check it out, the bolt on top the strut was loose. I tried to tighten it, but it just kept spinning (assembly under the wheel well was stripped and spinning). I removed the entire strut assembly and discovered that the top of the strut (threaded part) was nearly shaved off. The thread was half gone. Apparently, the idiot who previously owned the car had the car slammed, and I mean slammed. Anyhow, I rethreaded what I could, and thightened the bolt as far as I could using a wrench under the wheel well holding the strut in place and another 17mm socket to tighten the top. In other words, it was a *****. And still, it doesnt tighten all the way. The sound is not as bad. Did anyone else run into this problem where the strut keeps spinning so you can't tighten the bolt at the top of the strut. And if so, how did you tighten the bolt on the top of the strut? Thanks

Re: Front suspension help

you should be using a impact gun to tighten, if the strut is bad it will keep spinning, if its good, it will have enough resistance to allow a airgun to tighten it, or take a vice grip with rubber and a rag and clamp it to the strut piston itself and tighted the best you can

Re: Front suspension help

without pix it sounds like you should order a new strut or get that one repaired at an off road shop as they dral with coilovers now.
