| Brakes in Reverse My brakes squeak only when I brake when I am in reverse. Its kind of annoying. How do I fix this? Is it as simple as hosing down the area with water or? |

| Re: Brakes in Reverse That's normal. There isn't much you could do to get rid of it. Now if your brakes make that noise while moving forwards you need to inspect your rake pads. |

| Re: Brakes in Reverse I have not had the chance to look at my xB brakes yet, only had it about 2 months. I used to be an auto mechanic in my previous life (before college) and ASE Brake and Suspension Specialist. I have never encountered a brake squeak that I could not cure.
For regular pads/shoes, a little roughing up using sand paper or emery cloth usually does the trick for a squeak. If not, pads/rotors or shoes/drums may need to be resurfaced or replaced.
I have noticed that some xB drivers complain about clicking noises when operating or braking in reverse. I suspect this might be a loose brake pad clicking against the caliper.

| Re: Brakes in Reverse well this seems like it only does it a very low reverse speeds. like under 5mph or soo. any thing faster then that seems to be fine.
i may try and ruff 'em up a bit, and see if that helps.
o and it sounds like it is coming from the drums too.

| Re: Brakes in Reverse Squeaks from the drum brakes can sometimes be caused by brake dust that can accumulate as the brake shoe wears. This is why I like to pull the drums every other oil change to check shoes and wash away the dust. Also, there are contact points where the shoes slide against the backing plate that need to be lubed with a tiny amount of high-temp grease.

bigeefry | that happens to me almost every time i reverse, (out of a parking spot, out of the driveway. . etc) then apply the brakes before putting it in 1st and going forward.
its always - clutch in, shift to reverse gear, clutch out, roll back, clutch in, shift to neutral, apply brakes, CLICK (coming from front brakes), clutch in, shift to 1st, clutch out. . drive. .
i thought it was a probelem (i kind of still do) but i took it to toyota and told them about it and they didnt find anything wrong. im not sure if i trust that 100% but so far i've been fine, and at least now i know im not the only one with that same "problem" |

| Re: Brakes in Reverse Add:
I changed my brakes yesterday and wrote this DIY DIY - Front Brakes - or any disk brakes
with the addition of the disk brake quiet I have not had the problem of clicking/squeeking.
I think it is just the brake pads moving around in the caliper, just a guess |

i think that my squeaking in reverse comes from my drums. but im not 100% on that.

| Re: Brakes in Reverse drums are a little bit more tricky, but coming from a background in old VW's that were all drums. . im sure i can figure out these xB drums. That'll be my next write up and ill probably post it in this thread again like with the disks. |

the worst part about the rears is compressing that little spring that holds them in. |

| Re: Brakes in Reverse Hay
What's up besides the squeaking. I just wanted to tell you that my 06 does the same thing, but only once or twice as I back out of the drive? While I'm here I have another question or thought. I am old (56), today it seems as if all you guys lower your rides down, back in the day we raised them up with air shocks. When you have them lowered it looks cool as hell but what happens when you hit a big pot hole?
God bless,
Kim |
