Sportmax (XXR) 501 rivet problems?

I've been doing research on the 501's, and I've ran across a few mentions of rivets falling out.

It doesn't seem to be an issue of function, only cosmetic.

Apparantly you can order new rivets from Sportmax to replace the missing ones.

Does anyone know anything about this?

I am close to ordering a set, I'm now questioning the quality.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Sportmax (XXR) 501 rivet problems?

Um..I bought mine used with like what 5-7k on em.since then I've put um...maybe another 7 on em..Mine arnt even clost to lose...Lol...And if any of mine do fall off..Im just gunna rip all of em off...OfasxB did that to his 501's when he had em..Still looked cool, actually it looked cleaner..and it would make it WAY easier to clean...What was said in that thread was true..They are cheap rims..I wont doubt that...And one day I will have some sick, quality rims..Till then Im sticken' with my Sportmax.

Re: Sportmax (XXR) 501 rivet problems?

there's a company that you can order rivet replacements that are metal to replace the plastic ones in the sportmax / XXR wheels.

i don't remember the name of website, but i know it's out there. gotta take out the plastic ones and then the new ones come with threading to go in nice and tight and stay in if i remember correctly.

do know that, sportmax / XXR wheels are a cheap buy to begin with so... i wouldn't be surprised if the rivets fell out. hell i'll be using 002's for my rally setup. functionality is pretty solid on those and for what i'm doing, i'm expecting the rivets to be missing.

Re: Sportmax (XXR) 501 rivet problems?

I've read that depending on where you purchased that if you contact the seller about the rivets theyw ill replace the wheel.

I got my 501's from Nlmotoring.com since they were the site that was referenced in replacing the ENTIRE WHEEL...for missing rivets.

Re: Sportmax (XXR) 501 rivet problems?

I've been going back and forth in my head between the 501's and the Drag DR-20's. Both seem to be pretty well thought of for the money. I now have the moolah and am ready to order, I think.
I was on Nlmotoring looking at the specifics and I saw where it says the required lug-nut is "tuner style". Do I really need to order new lug-nuts? Not a biggie, they're only like $25 on the same site, I just want to get it right the first time.

Also, really just opinions needed here...which one of these will look cooler, ie flush, deep, etc.
-15x7 +38 1.5"lip or 15x8 +15 3"lip?
These are going on stock rubber.

Thanks!

Re: Sportmax (XXR) 501 rivet problems?

You can run them two ways
Higher offset in front with lower in rear for 'staggard'
Or. 15. All around

I opted for 15 all around

You can't use oem lugs u need a tuner "style" 25 bucks is decent unless u want flashy or colors and want to spend more

As for tires they will mount fine
Just search the forums fir guys running the same suspension as u ( if any)
And inquire about rubbing etc

Good luck

Re: Sportmax (XXR) 501 rivet problems?

ET15 all around man, it'll look REAL nice. the back wont be flush, you'd need a set of 10mm spacers if i'm not mistaken but the front will be perfect.

don't let the 10mm bug you though, that's just 1 centimeter or just over a quater inch. at first glance it's not noticeable unless you REALLY eye ball the clearance.

you'll need the tuner lugs for any new rims. they do that for owner security reasons and i would highly suggest getting 2 sets of 2 different locking lugs, both with different locking key tools from one another to insure that you wont wake up one morning to find your xB on blocks...

Re: Sportmax (XXR) 501 rivet problems?

I don't remember having any problems with the rivets on my 002s (I'm pretty sure they are the same arrangement). The new leopard set had those removed, holes drilled, tapped and allen head bolts put in. They look damn slick. Ton of effort though (glad I didn't have to do it actually).

Good luck on your decision!

Re: Sportmax (XXR) 501 rivet problems?

My rivets haven't fallen out, yet, but I am looking at other options. I've seen them completely yanked out (n2hotwheelz), ive seen spikes (gothbox), and I have seen the leopard wheels like the above post. I like the hex head bolt idea, as I'm looking to do a more flush look with the rivets, anyone have more info on how he did that? Or any other suggestions>?
