Where is your portable GPS unit located?

I just bought a Dash Express portable gps unit. Still deciding where to put it. I heard that it's illegal in California to put anyting on the windshield. You guys have any pics?

Re: Where is your portable GPS unit located?

I put mine behind my steering wheel, where a normal speedometer would be.

The stand is attached with screws and double stick automotive tape, and the GPS is hardwired.

Sorry bout that. Clubxb didn't really have a thread on GPS. I'm looking to see if anyone had any creative ideas.

Re: Where is your portable GPS unit located?

I attached mine to the left of the Speedo with velcro so I can take it out. Was going to put it behind the wheel but I am putting a ScanGuage there.

mikee1680 - I feel for you I had the same thing happen last year.

Same thing happened to me with my first GPS. But now I have a beefed up alarm system, and I make it clear that all of my 'portable' electronics are permanently attached and hardwired.

My photo was rehosted, so here it is for those who missed it:

Re: Where is your portable GPS unit located?

mine is in front of the steering wheel nobody pays attenttention to it because it makes the car look "normal" with the speedo being on top center.

Re: Where is your portable GPS unit located?

Man, Cailfornia gets crazier every year, no mounting on the windshield? For those of you not in Cali, I hardwired a second power cable to the wiring behind the cigarette lighter. I then rand the cord inside the A pillar and mounted it to the top corner on the driver's side. It doesn't get in the way while driving but I can still look at it and the road.

The suction cup did keep falling though. I ended up buying a second one and glueing it with silicone adhesive.
