This thread got a little confusing as I read along. If this has already been explained to everyones satisfaction, I appologize.

I have the 06 with the iPod upgrade stereo and this is how it worked out. The center console between the seats has the AUX input and the connector for the iPod. The problem is, the wiring for the iPod is not there. When you purchase the upgrade the dealer installs the wiring connection to the head unit.

You are right though, you can connect your iPod or any other MP3 player to the AUX input with a male to male connection line cord. It's not as clean as the iPod input but it works better than the FM transmitter solutions.

As far as the Scion/Pioneer iPod upgraded stereo, it's cool but I am actually considering selling mine and getting the Alpine unit. The knobs on the iPod Scion upgrade are difficult to use when not moving and almost impossible for me to control when driving. Add to that the fact that I have a 5 speed and it becomes even more difficult. (trying to navigate the iPod within the alotted time is tough).

I just realized that this has turned into a novel...sorry.

Ok, so I guess I still don't know whether I have the upgrade or not ( I know I didn't pay extra, but the dealer told me that it was set up for the ipod). Guess I better get someone over here with an ipod and check it out.

If I need the upgrade, how much is it?

The upgrade was something like 250, don't remember for sure.

Don't quote me on this but I belive that the aux input will just say Aux on it if you don't have the ipod upgrade, if you do have it, it will say ipod on the cover...I believe I've seen photos of this...

Man. I'm dying of curiousity. I wish that I had an ipod to check it out.

I notice that in the manual for the radio/etc it sure doesn't say anything about whether or not you have one, but rather how to use it.

If I don't have it, I'm gonna be pissed, because the guy at the dealer ship made it sound like I did, and I would have just payed for it if I didn't have it.

The easiest way to tell if you do is to look at your center console. Does it have a little rubber flap that says Aux?. If you lift that flap does it have a 2.5mm headphone jack? If it says Aux and has a 2.5mm Mini-Jack, then it is just the standard Auxiliary port. Otherwise, if it has a special connector port then it is for the Ipod.

Taken from www.scion.com:

"Connect, control, and charge your **iPod through the special adapter port. Using the receiver interface, you'll be able to browse through your collection of MP3s. And as an added benefit, the connector even charges your iPod while it is hooked up to the system. While any MP3 player is able to connect to the system, note that only iPods can be controlled directly through the receiver's interface. All other players can connect just as easily by using the mini-jack."

I can't, however, seem to find any pics of the connector.

My dachshund, Roger Staubach, and I just went out into the darkness of my back driveway with my maglite to look at my Aux hookup. I have a bad feeling that there is an ipod upgrade in my future.

Any pics would be appreciated. I love this site. You all are so helpful.

Hubbard, if you go to www.scion.com and click on showroom/xb/accessories/sound systems/accessories (menu on right)/Pioneer AM/FM/CD + Ipod/ you'll see a photo of the head unit, click on the "next" icon and you'll see a great shot of the iPod connector in the center console.

Hope that helps.

That was very helpful. It looks as though I need the upgrade for the ipod. I didn't see how much it cost, but I guess I can call the dealer.

Yea, that pic is what finally made it clear. Right in fron of the "aux" flap in my xB is a plastic square that is clearly where the ipod upgrade/port goes.

I'm guessing that the $260 cost includes labor....sure hope so. I'm still kind of pissed that the lying idiot that sold me the car told me it was ipod ready and good to go.

This little tale of woe continues.

So I call the dealer closest to me to inquire about installing the ipod upgrade, and he tells me that it will me $631 because I need a whole new head unit as well as the cable set-up and new port. So now I'm getting pretty steamed and decide I'm gonna start raising hell about it with my original dealer that I purchased from. Now, on their web site, it says that the upgrade is $550 PLUS $260 installation, so it's continuing to get worse.

But the tech guy at the dealer says that because I have the AUX port, I can go to Radio Shack and get a

"Gold Stereo Cable with double male connections" for $13.00 and that that will work fine, I just won't be able to control the ipod from the stereo unit.

I can certainly live with that if it's true. Anyone ever done it?

Please advise.

That's how I listen to my iPod in my S-10 Blazer. It works just fine, much better than the FM transmitter that I use in my Grand Prix. The only time the FM hook up works well is when I'm on the road to Vegas or Laughlin in the middle of nowhere. When I have done this though it's kind of cool, the other cars traveling with us can tune into the same station and listen to my iPod. We carry hand held radios so I play DJ and take request from the 5000 songs I have on hand. It sucks in the city where there are very few open freqs.

Yes, this is the way I listen to mine in my xB. I just use the cable with the double male ends and it works great.
