| Re: Why is VIP style getting played out.... I like VIP ... er ... Bippu ..er Garsun ...
Anyway, I don't think REAL VIP is played out at all. Personally, I have seen very few VIP-style cars on the road. I've seen a handfull at shows, but I also lived in the Midwest most of my life. The only VIP-style cars I saw at shows were in California.
Played out? No. Immitated? Sure. |

| Re: Why is VIP style getting played out.... I don't really know where to start, so Im just gonna let my fingers start typing,
I remember a few years ago when the Honda scene really started blowing up with all this JDM....JDM this JDm that....Hell even ebay sellers started saying all their parts were JDM. I was greatly influenced by what I started seeing in magazines.....but after a while, that look became the only one that was respected. I still love my Honda, but I began to hate the scene because freedom of expression was gone. ( You are probably wondering, this guy must have been "RICIN") But no. I set my car up as "JDM" as i could.
Then one day I realized I wasn't doing it to make ME happy, I was doing it to do it, cause everyone was doing it. So I left that behind, sold the EG6 and bought a Blue XB,( sorry i dont know all those snazzy codes) but its blue.
But I was curious, so I looked for forums on XB's which led me here. I still remember the first post I looked at, it was a photoshoot of Dajap's ride.(and the Danger also, sorry) Man it was so F*ing awesome, I remember being so inspired by it.....but I didn't go that direction. It just let me know the potential of these rides. Since I still have the JDM bug in me, that is the direction I want to pursue.....but this time for ME.
Im sorry for the long post, but I don't want everyone to think that VIP is the only way to go....but for those who don't, DO NOT DISS IT! I have seen so many cool boxes on here. Some are crazy some are clean.......but they are all unique. If we all start conforming to ONE look, then no one will really stand out.The freedom of expression is what I love about the Scion community. Lets not kill it by dissing each others rides. So if you got lambo doors, flip em up, You got ice then keep rocking it, and if you got VIP then keep em slammed.
We all have the cleanest rides.
Lata,
Da Rick |

| Re: Why is VIP style getting played out.... dascion is a bold person with a strong opinion. I like that. I personally don't try to stay on a specific style. I do what I like. It kills me when I see threads like " what do you think of these?" or "should I put this on my ride". Use your own judgement and taste not the approval of others. no one likes that. Being a design thief is different. I do it and feel comfortable with it because I like what I see. Conformity is for insecure people or trophy whores. |

The only time "should I put this on my ride" should be asked is when fit is a concern.
I'm with you DaRick, I like this forum for all the differnt styles people use. Do what you like, who cares if others don't like it; it's not their car. |

| Re: Why is VIP style getting played out.... I wonder how I missed this post?! I don't even use VIP when I present my car anymore. VIPstyle is the new **** lingo and anyone will do what they can to say that's what they have. So now I have to bring catalogs and books to show what I have is authentic to the shows.
And so I don't get baged for my screen name, I inherited it form living in Japan and getting fluent with all things Japan and automotive. And I haven't even scratched the surface...But I studied the wagon scene after attending a Tokyo Auto Gallery in '02 and I was impressed. And now I have something like that.

| Re: Why is VIP style getting played out.... I am one of those who admire The VIP (or Bippu) scene, and would probably go in that direction if not for my budget! That said, I respect those who continue in that direction even though the masses can't relate to it. I only have surface knowledge at best, but there are plenty here who do have said knowledge - And I wouldn't hesitate to ask them a question.
Thanks guys, carry on!!!! |
