| So Toyota tried to kill me..... I've had an issue with my steering this past week, so I took the box in for service. I described exactly what it was and how you can feel it all the time. Get a call back 3 hours later saying they couldn't find anything......BS damn thing practically had NO power steering. The mechanic asks me to take him for a drive to duplicate the issue. First corner I take the steering column snaps in half and I ricochet off the median........NEW bumper messed up along with two wheels. So now they "might" give me a rental......I am pissed. Probably calling a lawyer on Monday.

| Re: So Toyota tried to kill me..... That is one of a kind! Hell of a proof on your hands, give them a chance to cover the damage, since technically the car was in their posession. Hope it all works out for you. |

| Re: So Toyota tried to kill me..... talked to them today, said they won't cover anything. The steering column knuckle seperated and sheared off the firewall, the cause appears to be my agency Power pulley, missing bolts (WTF WTF WTF), and my H brace somehow came off? insurance it coming out tomorrow to assess everything. Kinda funny how they find everything AFTER I crash. So yeah, if insurance doesn't cover it I'll be parting out and doing something else. |

| Re: So Toyota tried to kill me..... Sounds like total BS to me. I would definitly want to see the Service manager explain that logic to me while pointing out how the power pully can snap a part on the other side of the car. |

| Re: So Toyota tried to kill me..... Get a lawyer, sue them. I had a TRD cold air intake and broke a rod. They tried to tell me the CAI hydrolocked it, and this was after I sent them two signed letters from the tow operator and shuttle bus driver that the roads were dry that day with no water. I also sent them the weather data for the 24 hours during that period, no rain. Conveniently the 2006 TRD CAI is "offroad only" and not covered.
I think the head gasket leaked into the cylinder and caused the damage, but of course that would make them liable and the dealership couldn't have that. They quoted me $6,900 for a new engine, lol. I bought a used one with 21k miles on it for $500, did the install myself and spent an extra $44 in fluid. No codes, runs great. If what you're saying is correct, this is clearly BS on their part, nail them for it. Lawyers should be beating down your door for a case like this. Don't take them on yourself, regardless of logic or reason if you don't have an ASE certification, Toyota won't listen to you. Maybe your insurance will step up on your behalf, GEICO was worthless for me, I dropped them soon after. |

The steering column isnt even on the same side of the fkn motor. OMG I would own that dealership by now.
They will say anything to get out of paying for shit.
There is NO WAY....that a PULLEY...can cause your STEERING COLUMN to **** up.
If your car is still under warranty then I would take that dealership for all its worth....if its not under warranty then there isnt anything you can do.

| Re: So Toyota tried to kill me..... Guess when Toyota says "Oh what a feeling" they are talking about the feeling of BS squishing between your toes while the service manager tells you that the pulley broke your steering column. I wonder how he kept a straight face while spewing that crap. |

| Re: So Toyota tried to kill me..... Note to self... Uninstall Hbrace, and never order a pulley....
That's pretty dumb seriously.
When I took mine in to have warranty work they only questioned my modifications when I rolled into the shop. The mechanic (younger guy) looked at it, and said, damn, lowest one in here so far. lol. 1/2 hour later, it was off the rack, parts were on order, and the car got fixed for free. And my axle boot ripped, with the car lowered.... Surprised I didn't get the run around.
Either way, it is mechanically impossible for a crank pulley to damage a steering column. Missing bolts or not. Only thing that would damage remotely related to steering components is the power steering pump. Spinning it faster (or slower) 'causing for less or more steering assist. Neither of which would effect the ware on the Steering Column. Sounds to me like they over torqued the knuckle from the factory. Maybe machine glitched during install. Hopefully either this only effected small run of cars (sorry), or it creates a recall and we all get free maintenance
Oh, and that bumper damage is totally weak. My bumpers look like that from daily driving. lol. I've rubbed threw the mount there, and the clip under the headlight has seen better days. Just zip tie that up

Stenger: Think I should take mine up there and see how they handle an xb laying on the swaybar? Maybe they'll fix the clutch right this time... |

You should take it up, and be like yeah somethings wrong with my steering....
hide the switch box... and when they say it feels fine, drop it... and be like OMG WHAT DID YOU DO! lol |
