SBKob2447 has a Check Engline light, please help

Hey, she's on the road and just called me and asked me to make this thread for her, basially her check engine light came on and shes getting a "Trac Off" and "VSC" light as well. Anyone know about what that is?

Car seems to be driving fine, but she says the steering wheel seems to turn more loosely than previously, could this have to do with not getting an oil change maybe? I know she was due for one soon. thanks for any and all help

Get the codes read with scanner. This is the only way to start dealing with the problem, unless you see something disconnected under the hood.

if the car is running fine, disconnect the battery for a little bit and reconnect it. Its probably triggered from the MAF in the intake.

You really need somebody with the scanner to help you. You can of course disconnect the battery to clear the light, but it has nothing to do with trying to find out what the problem is.

Still, has to be a specific number. Check out this site for possibilities:Toyota OBD-II Trouble Codes

Re: SBKob2447 has a Check Engline light, please help

PCH, yes, there may be "20" other problems associated with it. Also, she just had an intake put on her car. From doing as much reading as i have in the past 4 years on scions, that is the fix i have come up with.

Re: SBKob2447 has a Check Engline light, please help

hmm i dont think they were able to give her a number (this is zoomby under her sn right now)

the dealer wanted to charge her 100 something dollars to just check it...screw that, she recently had a CAI installed so im hoping it is only the MAF that set it off, what about the steering feeling looser? is that related or just paranoia?

anyone else with an intake have this error?

I didn't see a mention of the intake in original post. Agree with you on trying to reset the ECM.

Re: SBKob2447 has a Check Engline light, please help

Thanks everyone for the tips so far!!! Seems like from the link above its either the intake, spark plug, whatever a spindle is, and so on. I think that if I disconnect the battery to clear it, then see if it happens again. If it does I'll knoe its not the intake cuz I've had that in my car for a month and it hasn't happened yet

Re: SBKob2447 has a Check Engline light, please help

I reset my car numerous times...kept tripping the lights after about 40 or so miles...once the system cycled....code is a po420....replace both o2 sensors...which is what the code is for...also the cat.....next is to replace the stock airbox....if that doesnt do it its the stupid cat or MAF itself....neither of the 2 are a cheap fix....not to mention you CAN NOT just rest the system to pass emissions...I found out...they computer reads "not ready" and its a fail..... now I got 1 fail and looking at a second.....which sucks....heard it means reg pulled but not sure as I can't find any info regarding that...... obd2 and CT suck lol

Re: SBKob2447 has a Check Engline light, please help

^^ but we don't have to get our cars inspected in CT... right? so i dont have to worry about that. it's more the annoyance of seeing the lights on all the time. i'm going to disconnect my battery in a few minutes and then see if the lights come back on. because like i said... i've had the intake in there for a little over a month and this hasn't happened yet. if the lights do come back on then i'll know it's something else.
