DIY: OEM fog lights installation for the xB2.

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for the damages that you caused. So if you broke something or hurt yourself, don't come crying to me.

In this DIY, I will show you how to install the OEM fog lights onto your 2nd gen xB.

About this DIY:

Time from start to finish:
2hr & 30min

Level of difficulty in 1-10 range (where 1 stands for easy and 10 stands for extremely hard):
7.5

Tools you will need:
10mm socket
Small flat head screw driver
Some cutting tool (we used a saw)
Sand paper
This special socket to screw in the fog lights

Hire an Audi Tech. I'm just playing. Hehe...

Anyway, now onto the DIY with pictures.

Lets start from the inside.

Carefully remove the plastic piece below the steering wheel. It's held by clips.

Now look for the wire that will connect to the fog light switch.

The wire should be taped. I drew an arrow. Untape the wire and plug it in to the switch.

After you plug the switch in and put everything back together, the switch should light up when you turn on your headlights.

Now it's time to do the outside (the fun part). My brother went too fast so I don't know how many screws to take out.

Take out the bottom plastic piece that is near the bumper.

Carefully remove the grille.

My brother used this Audi tool. I got no idea what it is.

After you took out the bottom grille, you will be able to see the plug for the fog lights that is taped up. This is the driver's side.

The passenger's side (noticed that my brother was pointing at it).

Now it's time to cut the grille (yes, we have to use the same grille for the fog lights). You can see some markings on it so you know where to cut.

This is what the leftover pieces looks like after we cut the grille.

After you cut the grille, you will have to sand the edges that you cut. When you're done, install the fog lights (plug in the harness) and screw the 2 screws in on the bottom of the fog lights (sorry, no picture). Then install the grille back. If the grille is too long, take it out and trim it (we had to do this a couple of times).

After everything is set, now it's time to take off the front bumper to get the 3rd screw in on the fog lights.

Take off the top grille and that other piece.

Now take off every screws that you can find that is holding the bumper. I lost count of how many screws that we took off.

Once the screws is all off, you can take out the bumper. It will be hard because the bumper is held by clips under the headlights. This is a picture of me holding the bumper.

If you pull the bumper back, you can see the holes on the fog lights for the 3rd screw.

Once you tighten all the screws on the fog lights. It's time to put the pieces back together. Yes, it will take forever.

After you installed everything back, you can now enjoy the look of your xB.

My camera with Flash on.

Flash off.

Good luck!

Yeah, good write-up. I'm considering these on my GRM when I get them. I see the dealer "screwed" you in your front bumper too! = license plate

I'm bookmarking this thread for when I do mine (IF i do)

Great write up! I too have that special Audi tool but mine says Nissan on it. That's a plastic pry tool to prevent scratching plastic panels on the dash or door panels when prying in between parts...
