DIY: how to paint your taillights

Now this is my first attempt at doing a DIY to this nature it was actually very easy too do

tools: 10mm socket
ratchet
small extension
oven
butterknife-2
exacto knife
blue tape
can of spray paint thanks simijoecool for the paint
had just enough left in the can to do this

first off locate the tailight covers inside the hatch on each corner and pop those off you won't be able to see but you can stick your hand in and locate the 2 10mm screws that hold the light in

preheat the oven for 250 degrees

place light on tray and let it sit for 10 min

use the butter knife to pry apart the light starting on the inside of the light near the top

as you pry it apart it will come apart easily

this is what u end up with after you take off the lens i had already removed the red lens at top sorry no pics

the clear lens

i used the blue tape to tape off the section for the reverse light i wanted to keep it white

i used the exacto knife to trim the tape of so it would be nice and square

this is the paint i used krylon stain glass paint

here is a pic one side already painted

both painted and drying i used 2 coats on each one

the finished tailight

same thing different angle

again

both finished lights side by side

after the reinstall

driver side

passenger side

lights on

driver side

passenger side

with blinkers on

better pic of blinkers on

Re: DIY: how to paint your taillights

u did a pretty nice job from the look of it. i like how the krylon gives more of a dark red/maroon color. and the glow from the red lights looks so much more appealing

Re: DIY: how to paint your taillights

Again, this is a great write-up. Let's close this so it doesn't get off the topic.
