I may be wrong, and I'm sure someone else will answer, but you do have to have the red to be 'legal' in CA. Also, when tinting the taillights, if you tint so dark that the original red color of the taillight can't be noticed, it's illegal. Blacked out is no good here, either. Black cherry? Good to go.

Good job on the DIY, Surf. Looks great! Any pics of them on the xb?

I have heard that all lights must be visible from 500 feet to pass. I could of heard wrong, but I'm in TX.

Could be the same in CA. I'm not 100% sure of these laws, but have heard numerous times about how blacked out your taillights can be. There's a black and silver 2004/2005 Mustang in my town with 5% on all windows, 25% on the windshield, with totally blacked out taillights (even in sunlight they're deep black) and to my knowledge, he's had no issues with Mr. Law.

Enforcement of laws is a good indicator of how far to push. If cops seem anal about stuff, especially 'imports' or modified vehicles in general, I'd tread lightly.

Thanks, still not finished or installed yet. I'm not tinting them, going another direction with the mod. I'll post when I get them finished. Hoping for next weekend.

Hmm, maybe I will go like "Black Cherry" instead. Tinted just a bit would still be cool. I don't want to be getting pulled over, I'm a good girl (most of the time! lol)

Sorry for the thread 'jack, SurfCity! Looking forward to seeing them finished!

Those bulbs show to be headlight bulbs. Will they work in the tails as well?

yea they will work. its just a dual fillament bulb so it willl light up w/ the taillights and brighter w/ the brakes. I dont think it will work in headlights but like a front turnsignal it would. thoes are exactly what I put in mine. I would post pics but all I have is a frickin handy-cam that I cant get to load on to my computer which is why I dont have any pics.

I stopped by Super Autobachs tonight on the way home and I think I found some bulbs that will work. They look just like the stock ones but they have red glass. I am so going to try and finish the tails up this Sunday so I can have them ready for the Giovanni's meet Sunday night. I'll post pics of course!
