DIY Amber Side Markes

Clean your lights. No oil/waxes/dirt can be on them.

Pick up some hand water based model paint.

For mine I used Testors Turn Signal Amber (thats what the color is called)

You'll need one paint brush.

And a can of clear coat.

Once your markers are clean, stir up your paint.

Then apply the paint via brush to the out side of the light. Use long slow brush strokes. I went over it about 2-3 times to get this color.

Then after its dry you'll notice all your brush strokes smoothed out, and you can't even tell they were hand painted!

Next step is to apply the clear coat. Spray clear coat works fine here.

After it dries inspect it for any fish eye spots. if you have some, wet sand with 800 or 1000grit sand paper, clean, and re-apply.

If you want that smooth as glass look, you can again, wet sand with 1000grit or 1200grit sand paper, then use rubbing compound to buff away the fine scratches.

And there you have it.

Here is a before and after.

Cool! Thanks dude, this is a good one. I wish you could take apart the side markers and paint em from the inside though.

Well if you wanted to, I am sure you could.

You would just have to bake them, paint them (which may be harder because of the groves inside the markers), then re-seal them.

Probably more hassle than it is worth.

Hahaha, try baking your side markers and let me know how it goes. I'm sure they will just melt. True, more hassle than it's worth. Besides, your method turns out really good!
