| Ok, I only got four like I ordered, they didn't come in pairs.
Here is the first one finished but not installed.
All you need is a dremel and a little time.

I don't know how I want to wire them, I think I want to switch them on and off with the dome light switch.
And you don't need to drill the hole bigger for the wire like I did, all you have to do is take the little plug off the end of the wires feed it through and push the wires back in the slots. Just make sure to mark them.

| The handles are so far apart you probably will need 4 transformers anyway. I put mine in the back already, but looks like I will be taking them out and doing what Padanky did, only because my wife actually uses it when i drive. But i did install some in the rear wheel wells...

All you need is a dremel and a little time. | I didnt want them to be so bright so I put a LED in each post (eight total)
They still light up the int. and they're out of the way. I'll put up a pic with them all on when I get home. |

| Wow Point Oh, great minds think alike! I was also inspired by Surf & Jim when I read this thread awhile back, but concerned with using cathodes. (It would be a toss up on exactly who in my car would grab the handle & end up with bloody glass, but rather inevitable.) So I went the LED route also. Haven’t gotten them reinstalled yet, so no completed shots, but I thought I would take a few ‘pics while I still have all the pieces. I can’t be sure, but it looks like we used similar methods.
I used some LED’s from Pepboys. This 3 pack cost $6. You’ll need 3 packs. (8 for this mod which leaves 2 spares.) I recommend testing to make sure your LEDs work before installing. I just touch the leads to a 9 volt battery.
When the LED comes out of the package it has a black sleeve on it:
Pop the LED from the sleeve:
I’m afraid I didn’t take enough ‘pics for a proper write up so I don’t have shots of drilling the holes in the handle. You want to drill them so that the black piece fits in tightly with the black “collar” facing inward towards the handle. After the black piece is in you just reinsert the LED. It should look like this:
Here is a shot of a handle with both LEDs waiting to be reinstalled:
A friend is doing the wiring, so I can’t give details on that part, but we intend to thread the wires through the existing holes and put these on the same circuit as some other LEDs I’ve already got in the back.
I hope this doesn’t count as thread jacking -- if so I apologize. I don’t mean to imply this technique is better or worse than cathodes, just another alternative.
Surf you and Jim rock!

If you are using a host you will find a link under the photo on line that will be used to show the pic in this post. |
