DIY Removing Window Tint

So whether you want the clear look or you got a fix it ticket (like me) Here are some steps you can take to remove your tint. This is my first DIY so please bare with me! Thanks!

First off, warmth and sun was not my friend, as you can see.

Here are the materials you will need.
Not pictured: A beer and some patience.

Start by rolling down your window about halfway. Use the razor to slice and push back a piece of the film.

Slowly but surely pull the edge of the film to get it started.

Start to pull the film around the edges of the window, the adhesive is less sticky there.

Continue all the way around the window, the film comes off way easier than I expected.

Once you get the film off, step back and take in the feeling of getting raped by the man.

Now the real work starts, and this is your best friend in the world.

Spray on an industrial paper towel and rub on window, let sit a couple of minutes( while enjoying another beer)

With the scraper start scraping the adhesive off, don't worry about the mess, it is inevitable.

Keep scraping and rubbing with goo gone until all the adhesive is gone. Wash with window cleaner and start next window.

A job well done.
Thanks for reading!

Re: DIY Removing Window Tint

Thanks for the write-up! I had some 35% installed on my windows about 2 years ago, but I hate how it doesn't match the factory tint. I'm yanking it off and going with 20%...gonna take my chances with the cops. I had planned on waiting until summer to do it, but I might just get it over with now. How long had your tint been on the windows? I heard it gets messier as the tint ages.

Scratch that...I just called my tinting guy and he said he'd remove my existing tint for $10 a window. That's well worth it to me!

Yes very worth it! The shops here wanted 25 a window. Had the tint on about 2 years, and yeah I heard the same thing.
