Speedometer Dome Mod with DIY pics

This is a nice mod that i first saw in xBTony's thread:

Had to follow this. After looking at fabrics available decided to get a mouse pad from e-bay and just peeled the cloth from it- super easy. Many awesome designs available to anybody's taste. Here is my version:

Took few pics in process. This mod will not leave any visible marks in case you want to undo it or change for something different.

1. Make evenly spaced holes on the inside edge of the speedomeer dome. The plastic is soft, you can use anything sharp. I spaced holes every 5mm:

The bottom is a very irregular contour, but whatever works:

2. Use double sided tape to be able to position cloth the way you want:

3. Start stitching:

As the cloth becomes secure pull the tape from underneath places where it's no longer needed.

4. I used 22 gauge wire for the inside loop:

5. All done. Now trim the fabric off.

6. Installing is pretty easy. Use thin plastic or business card to tuck everything in:

Final look:

Thanks Tony!

Damn, Victorr so much effort went into yours. I did the same thing but with tape only... Sad thing is, Mine has a couple tiny creases in it, to keep the pattern of my fabric.

Re: Speedometer Dome Mod with DIY pics

Tony, you should've posted your know-how. I think any fabric will fade with time, especially here in SoCal. May be when it's time to replace i'll go with manga theme or japanese woodblock print design. Tons of cool mouse pads out there and not too expensive

Re: Speedometer Dome Mod with DIY pics

^^haha!

And I did mine by using packing tape on the back to hold it tight...then just threw it in...Made it REAL easy...I also sanded the front of mine...but mine was totally messed up...so it needed it..Haha!

Re: Speedometer Dome Mod with DIY pics

Taping it was the first thing i tried. Wasn't very happy, may be because of the kind of cloth i was using. Stretching issues, etc. I'm sure it worked fine on yours cuz in the pic looks just great.
