DIY: Removing and rewraping door fabric

ok so this took me waaaay longer than i though it was tough but after not likeing the results with the traditional tucking method of wrapping the panels i decided to do this.
First off you get a sharp (prefeably new) razor blade. you'll need to find the slit where you can get the knife in and then follow it around the panel cutting the whole thing out
heres what the opening looks like

heres what you'll have 2 seperate peices fabric sectoin and rest of the door panel

now there may be a little glue or stock fabric left on the egde you can sand it of if you really care but with my fuzzy fabric it wont be seen. also notice the lip that is around the panel. we'll use that later for screwing it back into place.

now heres the panel on the fabric. as always spray the fabric and spray the panel let it get tacky for about a minute then wrap. cut the extra fabric AFTER you wrap it.

now leave about a couple inches extra fabric around the edges and then glue the back of the panel and wrap it tight. it should look like this

then insert short self tapping screws every couple inches along the lip we saw earlier. this will ensure the panel wont pop out and is very secure

and heres a close up

now tighten all screws in ( you'll want a ratcheting "L" screwdriver. this part took the longest)

now cut out the slits in the fabric for the door handle and the window controls and pop it back into place and you're done! woot!

if you have any further questoins please feel free to ask!

Re: REMOVING and rewraping door fabric

Nice writeup yellow_sub!!! The end product looks great, so soft and furry. I can see why you wanted to not use the traditional tuck method, I can't see being able to tuck that thick fur to well, at least I couldn't.

Great job!!!

Re: REMOVING and rewraping door fabric

Serious question. Did this make it easier to stretch the fabric?? I'm wondering if this method will help me get my suede to not have a single wrinkle in it.

i think it would eric. cuz you can pull tight at the edges and then tuck behind the panel. notonly the glue around the edges but the screws will keep it all in place too

I love your door panels now dude, looks sooo much better in person. LMAO.

P.S. It is almost time for a little photo shoot at the Hills like you did for United.

From a guy who does this for money, your write up really good. Keep trying new things. I did and now I know the whole thing from seats to trunks and now a small business. Good stuff!

Great write up and a much better method than tucking.
