DIY: Covering the door panels

Okay so I after asking 1,000,007 questions on here before actually doing the deed, I finally covered my door panels w/some cooler fabric haha. Thanks everyone for the help/tips... here's my DIY on covering the door panels. If you have any tips on how it could be done better (esp the front ones because I need to redo them) please let me know. Enjoy!

1) Take off the door panels (There's DIYs on this already). I was surprised at how easy it was to take the doors off... i love xB's haha.

2) Tape off around the fabric area... about 3-4 inches since you'll be spraying the adhesive.

3) Cut the fabric big enough to cover the area, and then some, since you'll be tucking it.

4) Spray 3M-90 on both the door's fabric and the new fabric you're laying down and spread it out over the surface making sure there's no bubbles or creases

5) Tuck the fabric into the crease using a putty knife or something flat

6) When the fabric's all tucked, cut it w/a razor blade, making sure you cut in the tucked part, not too close to the edge where u can see

7) Touch up anything like tucking or clean off the glue on the edges and then cut holes in the fabric for the window switches and cup, and then stick them back in

8) Put the door panel back on the door the same way you took it off and repeat these steps for the 3 other doors

ALL DONE!

Re: DIY: Covering the door panels

thanks! does anyone have tips on how to make the front 2 nice and flat? I got some folds and I'm going to redo them today with a second person to help me (i did it myself yesterday) but i'm not sure if all you need to do is stretch it

Re: DIY: Covering the door panels

Yeah, you definately need to stretch it.... I've tried 3 times so far, and every time I've gotten it a bit better, but can't get rid of the same couple folds....

Re: DIY: Covering the door panels

whew thanks i thought i just sucked at life. i am going to try stretching it again today - did you use the same fabric or did you get more and just do it over? i'm going to have the boyfriend help me too since it was hard as hell doing it myself

the back two came out PERFECT though... the front ones are hard since they're more curvy and bigger area

Re: DIY: Covering the door panels

Just as a heads up to everyone, DON'T USE 3M SUPER 77. IT SUCKS!

Go with 90 or 3m General automotive trim Adhesive (its in a all black can)

Nice right up
