DIY: saving your lower grille piece on your xB1

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for the damages that you caused. So if you messed up or even got hurt, don't come crying to me.

this DIY is for those people who had lost the lower grille piece when they hit the bumper lip. here is one of the way not to lose your grille piece again on the road...

About this DIY:

Time from start to finish:
15-30min (I was taking my time, double checking, and taking pictures)

Level of difficulty in 1-10 range (where 1 stands for easy and 10 stands for extremely hard):
3

now, on to DIY...

the picture shows that the driver's lower piece grille is attached to the bumper, but the passenger's side isnt.

Stuff you'll need:
1 long and 1 short zip ties.
jack and jack stands.
fingers.

first, left up the car and put some jack stands.

then use a drill (i dont have a drill, so i used the dremel). make sure it could fit the small zip tie that you're going to use.

then carefully drill the plastic piece (2 holes) like so...

then use the small zip tie and tie it to the piece as shown in the picture. dont tighten it.

then put the grille into the bumper. here is a pic looking up my bumper.

next, you're going to use a longer zip tie to tie the plastic to the zip tie that is on the grille piece.

like this.

this is what it looks like when you're trying to pull the grille out. it wont come off.

you can see the zip tie...

i know some of you guys think that this is a ghetto modification. but i think it will work.

Great minds think alike. Looks like the DIY I put up last year about saving the foglight covers.

Sometimes, it's the simple things that get the job done.

Common problem.Remember the RS1 at the Richmond Tailgate meet? It was missing a grill corner. I have no idea how the grill corners disappear but the foglight covers pop off REAL easily.

Nice write up and very good idea! I just wish that I had done this mod before last Sunday. I hit a dog or a fox or something at about 90....poor little grill piece didn't stand a chance!

Re: DIY: saving your lower grille piece on your xB1

I just got my xB, not even a week ago, and I noticed that the grill piece is missing on mine. Can I get a replacement? It's the right corner and my xB is an '06 if you needed to know. Thanks so much in advance.

You'll have to check with the parts department at a dealership.

Again, nice write-up, Johnny. Let's close this before it goes off topic.
