| Re: Rear shock replacement DIY Monroe shocks Probably because those are close to stock. Manufacturers rarely suggest other than stock parts. We suggest others because of ride height and comfort and things of that nature. |

| Re: Rear shock replacement DIY Monroe shocks Regarding the question on replacing the front struts, I highly recommend doing that. You will realize somewhat of the same benefits as achieved by Monroe rear shock replacement; Monroe being significant because looks like they are the only non-stock front replacement option.
I did the Monroe 'Echo' struts; before the new Monroe XB specific struts were available. I am quite pleased with the "Echo' struts. Though that extra 1/2 inch drop is there, I find it kind of cool. Gives the box a rather mean looking suble forward tilt, which is already enhanced with my Hotchiss lowering springs. (Have to be careful with the tire height though... you will definitely rub if you go pothole surfing with that combo with a high tire, like 215/50.)
Since the new Monroe XB specific struts are available, I would think that is the obvious choice now. |

How did it go? | I did both rears in about 30 minutes. They were a piece of cake.
I also bought the fronts struts and decided to tackle them as well. I got the left one done in about 3 hours. I made a few mistakes, but learned so that I can do the right side tomorrow. Shouldn't take me more than an hour. |

| Re: Rear shock replacement DIY Monroe shocks Man, after reading this entire thread. I am really confused on which rear shocks to get for my box. Can someone please clarify which ones do which? I need a really soft ride in the rear and front. I have 210's for lowering springs. |

| Re: Rear shock replacement DIY Monroe shocks is it just me, or is it hard to find a comparison between 5601 and 5987 in terms of numerical specs and ride difference? Are 5987 shocks shorter than 5601 and thus better for lowered cars? |

jeff | Can't say for sure Jeff but I would think the ride would suck due to the shorter travel with the after market shocks. Quote:

| Re: Rear shock replacement DIY Monroe shocks Very nice DIY here. Surfcitylocal, when you did your rear shocks what was your mileage. Ive got an 06 with 33000 with the TRD sway bar on her. So I am thinking I can wait for a good while yet. |
