This maybe a stupid Q, but will the intake manifold bolt up from the 1.8? I think that is where our engines are lacking the most intake-wise.

Did weapon-R ever make an aftermarket one?

Manifold from 1.8 will not bolt on. WeaponR makes a manifold for 1zz, search in Engine section.
Our motors are not choked by intake configuration. It's an economy motor that lasts, uses little gas and produces low emission. Lightweight internals and low friction and cost is why it's not making 100hp per liter.
