Re: DIY: 1zz-fe throttle body swap

hotweelz4me may be on to something. The 1ZZ-FE throttle body gasket from the Corolla might just work. It would be worth the $3-$5 to test it to find out. Even if it meant a little extra trimming.

This is the gasket for the Corolla 1ZZ-FE between the throttle body and manifold...

Compare that to Cody's gasket...

And the 1ZZ-FE and 1NZ-FE throttle bodies...

Looks like the stock 1ZZ-FE gasket from the Corolla just might work. So I guess that just leaves one question... EZ, what the heck are you waiting for? Get a gasket and get to cutting some aluminum!

Nice find, rton20s! That would work, all we need to do it make the cutout for the vacuum channel. And yeah, we're working something out about the metal cutting, hang tight.

Would it be benificial to add a fuel rail and upgraded injectors to this setup?

Re: DIY: 1zz-fe throttle body swap

IMHO, that would not help anything. But need to see if the TB makes the engine run anywhere near lean.
Right now i think that the gains from larger TB don't come from increased airflow but from changed timing curve. Need to do some testing on it to find out for sure, though. I may be wrong. Waiting for mine- $30 delivered from e-bay

Re: DIY: 1zz-fe throttle body swap

Its bringing more air in for sure. The loudness proves that! Lol

But it may be altering the timing curve as well.

And the throttle responce was greatly improved. I think you pair this tb with the right manifold and we have a winner!

I think, the tb, paired with a manifold with about a 60-70mm collector and proper port matched runners manifold, fuel rail and tc injectors would be a great set up. Now a header and full 2.25 exhaust with high flow cat will only benifit more from this. And of course any change in a/f mixtures should get a tune. I'm willing to bet you could get the box into the 15sec 1/4 mile times! Lol

Alright, filled up today and cleared the tripometer. I'll try not to hot rod it too much and post up mpg toward the end of the weekend.

Re: DIY: 1zz-fe throttle body swap

I'll be filling up tonight and getting mpg. I threw some codes again saturday after hitting 100mph on at a closed course testing facility.

P0102
P0113
P0441
P0442
P0446

Looking those up now. Once I figure these out, I'll get the stuff sent your way, EZ.

Uh wtf.
P0102 = Mass Air Flow Circuit Low Input (o.0 Definitely not low, if anything it's way too much.)
P0113 = Mass Air Flow Circuit High Input (makes more sense)
P0441 = Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow
P0442 = Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Small Leak)
P0446 = Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction

So my guess is that at 100mph, the air coming into the intake with my ram air is way too much. This could have lead to a strong enough vacuum to cause my improperly connected evap system to leak in air. I'll be buying a hose to fix this and resetting everything.

Re: DIY: 1zz-fe throttle body swap

The P0113 is for Intake air temp sensor. Doesn't make sense to me right now even though it's inside the MAF assembly.
Last 3 are indeed EVAP. Got pics of the new TB looking in from before he butterfly plate? Trying to see if the EVAP line ported into the body same way as on stock TB.

Re: DIY: 1zz-fe throttle body swap

P0113 Intake Air Temperature Circuit High Input , correct. I was just googling and didn't realize I was looking at the wrong vehicle. The others came off the code list on scionlife:
ScionLife View topic - Check Engine Light Codes: The List

This is the closest thing I have to what you are asking. It basically goes right down into the body, between the butterfly and intake manifold.

Re: DIY: 1zz-fe throttle body swap

Kinda hard to tell from this pic, but what i am thinking about 3 EVAP codes is that if the difference between 2 TB's is in where the vapors are sicked in (before the plate or after) that may cause the 441, 442 and 446 codes.

Re: DIY: 1zz-fe throttle body swap

Just double checked, that pic is very misleading. It is before the butterfly, so hopefully we can rule that out.

Re: DIY: 1zz-fe throttle body swap

Well, if following direction of the airflow the EVAP port is now before the plate, then it's different from stock TB where it's after the plate. That may be your problem. Wanna tap the EVAP line into the brake booster hose to see if that take care of the last 3 codes?

Re: DIY: 1zz-fe throttle body swap

Interesting:

Same throttle body I swapped in, I wonder how he eliminated the evap system without throwing codes. See the bolt blocking it off?

Re: DIY: 1zz-fe throttle body swap

Hmmm... MAF held by a ziptie to the drainpipe, odd bolt plugging the evap port. Is it on of the offshore tuned Echos? You really think the check engine light is not on?
Anyway, as long as the EVAP is conected to the intake manifold vacuum at the location where it will mix evenly between all cylinders you should be fine.
